I have been invited to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria. I leave for staging May 19th! I am ecstatic. I know that this does not mean I will become a volunteer but I am confident that with the training provided coped with my skills and dedication that I will be a volunteer after training! This day comes as a wonderful way to start off 2009. I am thoroughly excited and can not wait to step foot in Bulgaria and start training. I have so many feelings that it is almost hard to take in. The application process is done! I can not believe it! I have an invitation to serve! My calling! I am beyond myself. To even be considered for an opportunity like this is- well it's hard to explain how I feel. It's AMAZING!

Congrats! What kind of camera do you have that you were taping while you were driving?
Hey Liz,
Actually I was using a Cannon "Point n' Shoot". It's a battery (not Lithium Powered) operated and is a smaller version of their DSLR. My DSLR broke while in Cairo last year and unfortunately is too much to repair. So I got a smaller point and click "power shot", and a 35mm Minolta for my trips abroad. Still does the job without spending a significantly amount of money.
I've already submitted my application, and I'm hoping for Macedonia or Bulgaria (I'll go anywhere, but those would *really* help my master's work)...
What sort of timeframe did you have, between the submission of your application/interview/invite?
Also, any pointers for the interview?
Hey Abraham,
Yes, I'm using this as not only an awesome experience to help people but I know it will help enrich my experience as a masters student when I return. My time frame for the application process was a bit different, but it was still about the same length. I submitted my application in March 08. So it took sometime. After submitting my medical information it took about 8 weeks, and then after being medically cleared it took about 4 months until my P.O. was able to invite me. Now just 3 more months of waiting!
As for the interview be you, be flexible, ask questions. It is like any other job interview so dress appropriately, and come in prepared to talk about how and why you want to do the Peace Corps. What you plan on doing. Remember each Peace Corps experience is different for everyone so you may not have to wait as long as I did. Hope that helps!
